Priesticide Lust - Pride of Ignorance (1994)

"It's like being hit with a sack of hammers that were fans of Incantation." - Funeralmass

Priesticide Lust, aside from having an amazing band name play extrememly kvlt death doom from Poland. This shit is fucking crushing. They pummel you into oblivion and then just when you can't take any more they change the pace with a blasting death section. The vocalist is of Demilichian flavor. Well enough rambling, hit this shit up.

Dažd - Dažd (2009)

What, is there any actual metal band in Serbia?
I discovered this band because of their split with other blackened crust band (namely Order of the Vulture, who are awesome btw) and their only song on there was enough to instantly make me check this band out. Anyone familiar wit OotV will probably have an idea what to expect from Dažd, but to those who doesn't, this is somewhere in between crusty sludge a la Dystopia, some serious Amebix, Hellhammer and first wave BM worship and everything slowed down a tad to get a doomy feeling. Vocals are rather scarce throughout the album but when they appear they are like raspy scream somewhere in between a black metal shriek and your typical crust vocal style, and the singer contributes really well to set the dark, apocalyptic atmosphere that metallic crust is so effective in casting. Lyrics apparently deal with anarchy, paganism, nuclear war and other funny things, though I obviously don't understand a single word the guys shout to the microphone. They seem to be fairly simple anyway, and you can pick the words from the song titles being repeated over and over again

Also, if any of you suckas happen to not like this, it's also a fairly short listen so you won't need to suffer for more than thirty minutes. Hope you like it though.

Church Of Misery - Houses Of The Unholy (2009)

Alrighty, so I've had a taste for stoner/doom these past couple of months. I'm not real sure about how I came across this band, so far this album is pretty dope. The vocalist Yoshiaki Negishi was the past vocalist for Coffins (another great doom band), and his vocals are superior to what I've heard from most bands who try to recreate the 70s doom mantra. And although I wouldn't necessarily call this Black Sabbath worship, it definitely has some Sabbath undertones to it. Personally, I like the Sludgy riffage, the groovy melody, the heavy bass licks, and just the whole psychedelic effect of the music's ambience in general. The songs are dedications to some of the sickest known serial killers in history; Albert Fish, Richard Trenton Chase and Richard Speck to name a few. This album pretty much blew me away. I cannot do it's description full justice by trying to explain it to you (as it's hard to describe such the wonderful experience that it gives) so what the hell is there to say? You need to experience this album for yourself, then maybe you'll be more likely to understand exactly what I mean.

Equus - Eutheria (2008)

Genre
- post-rock/prog/doom

Genre blending happens everyday, but how often do you hear it done perfectly? Judging by the outrageous number of artists that attempt it, probably fairly seldom. However, 'Eutheria' by Equus is an honest to goodness masterpiece. The listener will notice a full minute of silence, with some nearly inaudible culminations brewing just before the first note. The evil tension that builds in this 30+ minute epic is deceptive, because it is also oddly beautiful.

Now I could go on about this album indefinitely, so lend an ear, and enjoy!

Embers - Embers EP (2007)

Genre - Black Metal, Doom Metal, Crust, Atmospheric Sludge Metal
Review - This is a truly obscure EP. A mind fucking mix of relentless brutality and beatiful soundscapes. Its as if you are experiencing Agalloch, Dystopia, Bone Awl all together. Vocals are harsh as well as low growls. There are slow doomy/sludgey passages often reminiscent of atmospheric sludge bands like Isis and Neurosis.
Drumming is the highlight here. The drum rolls are magnificent and loud as fuck! And dont forget I mentioned the word CRUST guys, so prepare to get assaulted by incessantly fast and crushing parts in the album.

Flames of Hell - Fire and Steel (1987)

I'm not really digging this one as much as some of you here probably will, but the best way to describe it would be to steal what someone else said in a forum, and say that it's what Cirith Ungol would've sounded like if they were black metal. The bass is very, VERY loud on this record, so you may have trouble deciphering some of the riffs, but so far it's looking quite promising.

Klimt 1918 - Secession Makes Post - Modern Music (2000)

Klimt 1918 (named after the famous painter) are an Italian band that play a sort of progressive melancholic doom pop rock hybrid very much in the vein of bands such as Katatonia and Amorphis, the band were originally called Another Day where they played a progressive death/doom style of music similar to that of Katatonia's earlier days. Each member has had his claws in the metal scene at some point, playing in death, doom and thrash metal bands and that general metal vibe can be heard Klimt's music.

Secession makes post - modern music is their first and most metal release, after this release they have gone down the catchy melancholic route, though they carry on making good music. Consisting of a mere 5 tracks this album manages to, or at least it did with me, make it's mark on you on just the first listen.

From the second this record begins the inspiration of bands like Katatonia is undeniable, but Klimt 1918 are much more than a Katatonia tribute act. Every track on this album has something to shout about, from the catchy riffs of the opening track Schmerzwerk 1976, to the absolutely amazing closing of Passive, to the great doom metal atmosphere represented in both the music and vocals on Swallow's Supremacy and finally the melancholic ending presented in April.

Granted the lyrics on this album might not be great and the vocalists English even worse but are you going to let that deter you from a great release, I suggest you listen to this NOW.

Jerusalem - Jerusalem (1972)

Child of the 70's, this is the first (and only) album from the british band Jerusalem. It's a traditional doom metal/hard rock band, kinda like Black Sabbath, Hendrix and Led Zeppelin that deserves some goddamn recognition for being truly awesome and kick-ass. If rockin' basslines, heavy riffs, steady drumming, balls-out shredding, acid trips and acting like you're a know-it-all artists that feels the love of the world in a cynical society are your thing, then don't skip this. For 1972, it's quite heavy and a slight bit prog rock-ish, unlike the more straightforward approach of Pentagram's debut (even though that's not from the 70's, just sayin'), but still catchy as fuck. Try not to sing along to "Primitive Man" or the all-out rockin' masterpiece that is "She Came Like A Bat From Hell" (which is also their best song).
Some quotes regarding the band:
"They gigged throughout Europe and shared the same stage as bands such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Status Quo"
"It has often been stated within the music business that Jerusalem were a substantial influence on many of the 2nd generation Rock "metal" bands and Punk bands of the 80's"

Hooded Menace - Fulfill The Curse (2008)

This, like Acid Witch, needed some blog cover too. Razorback Records released lots of great materials last year, this being one of them. Taking cue from the "Tombs of the Blind Dead" series, where eyeless zombie templars chased young women in slow motion on rotting horses, to perform exsanguination rituals on them, these old-school loving freaks are sepulchral, skull-crashing old school doom/death. You could cite Winter or Asphyx as influences, but I think it does a good job of standing on it's own two feet. It's got lots of riffs, melodic soloing, dual guitars and tempo shifts to provide an interesting listen, though if you're into the SAW movie series, fancy caffe lattees and/or rampant male buttfucking, you'd better try to find something else.

BONUS
What's that you say? You haven't seen the Tombs of the Blind Dead? Well, aren't you lucky today! 'Cause I've just happened to upload the first movie of the series! Enjoy "La Noche del Terror Ciego"!
